Indianapolis Motor Speedway Information

Will's Take On Indy
Unlike recently built tracks, IMS is set in old neighborhoods in Speedway, IN. It's fast and it's flat, and the 2½-mile track with the infamous bricks at the finish line is a challenging track to master as any on the circuit. This is one of the few tracks on the circuit where Jeff Gordon gets more cheers than boos; he's won here four times. Fellow Hoosiers and one of my favorite drivers, Tony Stewart has two wins to his credit (2005 and 2007), and Jimmie Johnson (Booooo) kissed the bricks in 2006, 2008 and 2009.
There is not much banking to speak of at Indianapolis, but you can bank on the excitement that one of the most coveted checkered flags in all of racing is sure to deliver.
Growing up literally less than 2 miles from the track, Indianapolis Motor Speedway is practically my back yard. As a young man I could hear the cars from my bedroom. Waking up to the sounds of the speedway is where it all started for me. As you may already know Indy is full of history and has a great deal of tradition and passionate fans.
While it may not be the most exciting track on the circuit, it is definitely a strong top 5 of mine.

When May arrives each year, for those of us who live in a part of the country that is not known for great weather most of the time, it is almost like we Hoosiers are let out of a cage. Spring is here, summer can not be far behind. And it also means that the (30 days of May) have arrived. When I was a much younger person, I started listening to the Indianapolis 500 each year on Memorial Day. The race was changed from Memorial Day to the Sunday, however, has no bearing on what the opening ceremonies mean to me, or the way they emotionally move me to tears...
